UTILIDOR-VANCOUVER CONVENTION CENTRE EXPANSION, BC   PRECASTING

Project Description

In December 2005, PCL Constructors Westcoast, Construction Managers for the Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project, awarded the $2M dollar utility corridor project (aka Utilidor) to Surespan Construction Ltd. The project consisted of the design, fabrication and installation of 41 matchcast precast concrete components that would serve as a water-proof corridor for the new convention centre’s electrical and plumbing utilities.
QR Engineering was hired to provide engineering services for the two phase utilidor project.
QR’s work included designing the utilidor matchcast forms that would be used to fabricate all 41 pieces in addition to the preparation of engineering procedures and drawings for component unloading and erection purposes.

At the request of local contractors, we have provided precast concrete design alternatives for several bridges and culverts. We have also provided shop drawings for several casting plants in the area for items including traffic barriers, culverts, bridge girders and decks.
